What is the code of conduct for telemarketing in the Netherlands?
To assure the quality of commercial telephone conversations in the Netherlands, Dutch telemarketing companies have set rules. These rules are stated in the Code Telemarketing.
The Code Telemarketing is divided in the ‘Advertising Code Telemarketing’ and the ‘Code of Conduct Telemarketing’.
Advertising Code Telemarketing
The Advertising Code Telemarketing includes rules that concern commercial telephone calls. For example: a telemarketer must state clearly on behalf of which company he or she is calling. Moreover a telemarketer cannot make a commercial offer to people of who he or she suspects are under 16.
The Advertising Code Telemarketing also states at which times a telemarketer can call somebody and how the option of the ‘Do not call’ registry must be offered.
Code of Conduct Telemarketing
The Code of Conduct Telemarketing includes behavioral rules. For example: the training of telemarketers must pay attention to the national laws and regulations.
The rules in the Code of Conduct Telemarketing apply to all companies in the Netherlands.
If a consumer notices a violation of the Code of Conduct Telemarketing, he or she can file a complaint at the Dutch Advertising Code Institution.
